Size does matter. And in case of concerts, it’s the other way round as you usually interpret these words. So the smaller the better. I love those intimate club concerts without big stage and distance to the artists and therefore I was really keen on yesterday’s appearance of Icelandic rising electronic stars Vök who stopped by in Musik & Frieden club in Berlin during their first European headliner tour.
Svavar Knútur @Biersalon Trompeter, Hof, 27.2.16
It is quite rare that Icelandic artists or bands show up close to my home in Upper Franconia which is admittedly rather off the beaten track when it comes to concerts. But in case the exception arises and it’s even a musical tidbit like songwirter Svavar Knútur from Reykjavík who is currently touring Europe with […]
Sónar Reykjavík Day 3 – Battle of the Icelandic rappers
Time goes by quickly, especially when you’re having a good time. And so it was already saturday before you knew it, the final night of Sónar Reykjavík 2016. Packing bags for the flight early on sunday in the morning, checking out from the beloved and once more cozy KEX Hostel, some strawling around Reykjavík and […]
Sónar Reykjavík Day 2 – Screaming Girls and Dancing Folks
The second day of Sónar started with lots of expectations. But again, the first bands had to face almost empty halls while playing their first songs. The main problem is about the number of people in a big venue. You can´t change the fact that the main crowed arrives at about 8pm and 9pm. But […]
Sónar Reykjavík Day 1 – Pour that glitter on me
First night of Sónar Reykjavík already went down in history! And though it started surprisingly unobtrusively, it ended with a big bang of joy and glitter. But step by step.
Svavar Knútur and the ups and downs of life
If you cast a glance at our events calendar of February, there’s one name that undoubtly dominates the schedule: Svavar Knútur. During his European tour to promote his latest album “Brot” (which you could translate as “breaking”) which he released last year, he will perform in 14 cities all around Germany. So it’s on the […]
Júníus Meyvant @Ampere, Munich, 31.1.2016
One man, one guitar, and a microphone. Less is not possible, but also nothing more than this is necessary. On a rainy Sunday, great Icelandic Singer-Songwriter Júníus Meyvant plays a gig in Ampere in Munich. In the beginning he announces to play 620 songs. Half of them are not written by him but from Angela […]
Sóley & Mr. Silla @E-Werk, Erlangen, 9.12.2015
When I saw that Sóley would come to E-Werk, Erlangen, I knew I have to be there. The memories of her overwhelming performance at KEX hostel during Airwaves 15 still were young. Back then, she played solo and I can’t remember a full to bursting KEX being that quiet during a set, entirely entranced from […]
Agent Fresco @Club Stereo, Nuremburg, 8.12.2015
Well, to be exactly, that’s a review about two concerts. Because Agent Fresco was already on stage at Ampere, Munich, the day before on December7th. And as it’s only about one hour drive from Munich to Nuremburg, what could be more obvious than to enjoy this phantastic band on two consecutive days?
The Vintage Caravan @Backstage, Munich, 25.11.15
Wednesday night. Halfway through the week. Time to power up for the second half – and there’s no better way to do this but a Vintage Caravan concert! Currently, the band is touring Europe as support for Swedish doom metal formation Avatarium.
